Inevitable abortion

Definition:
Inevitable abortion is a spontaneous abortion which cannot be stopped. It is characterised by lower abdominal cramping and bleeding. The uterine cervix is dilated and fetal and/or placental material may already have passed. Compare to threatened abortion.
