Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, the School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography is an 18-month program based at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital which prepares students both clinically and theoretically for careers in Diagnostic Medical Sonography – more commonly known as ultrasound.

A maximum of four students are accepted for the school term, which begins each September. Graduating students acquire a solid background in general sonography (abdominal, OB/GYN, high resolution scanning and introduction to non-invasive vascular sonography).

A graduation ceremony is held in March for students successfully completing the program. Certificates of Completion are granted, and graduates are eligible to take the National Certification exams.


Admission Requirements and Application Process

Those applicants who meet the standards for acceptance will be contacted for a personal interview. Applicants who do not meet the criteria will be notified in writing. Admission to the school is open to any person whose academic record and personal merits attest to sucessful completion of the 18-month program. Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, applicants to the School are selected without regard to sex, race, national orgin or creed.

School Hours: Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM
