The Wyoming Valley Health Care System Library is located in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on the main floor, center wing, adjacent to the Doctors' Lounge. The Library owns over 4,000 books and subscribes to approximately 200 journal titles. Reference services are offered by a qualified staff and include computerized searching of the medical literature. We have access to most of the world's literature through our interlibrary loan services.
Physicians have access to MDConsult through a subscription paid for with contributions from the Medical Staff. This website can be accessed anywhere a physician has access to the Internet. MDConsult contains many full-text medical books and journals, including the Clinics, as well as medical news, practice guidelines and patient education handouts. Contact the Library staff for a login and password.
You may also access over 500 online, full-text journals through our subscription to EBSCOhost. This Internet service also contains the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Login is automatic from any computer on the hospital's network; however, contact the Library staff for a login and password if you wish to access this database at home or in your office.
The Library has Up-To-Date available on one of its computers. It can only be accessed in the Library, but the staff will be happy to send the information to you.
When the Library is closed, staff may gain entrance by obtaining the key from the Operators near the Information Desk or by calling Security.
